I agree completely. Unfortunately, arguing with religious people is useless. They will never be convinced by logic and reason.
Alas! You are right. I cannot count the amount of times I was answered something like "whatever science says, it's a matter of faith, blah blah". But I'll keep on appealing to logic anytime I have to talk to a bigot, just because it makes them very uncomfortable :-)
