Last I checked a Ventoline inhaler (Salbutamol sulfate) costs 3,94€ (4,45 US$) here and 65% of it is taken care of by Healthcare. I was once prescribed a new version of it - Airomir - made by another lab who basically only changed the spraying system while keeping the composition the same, only to sell it double the price at 7,67€ (8,68 US$).
It's been years since the usage and selling of salbutamol sulfate to asthmatic patients is no longer tied to a patent and became a generic drug. Such a cost for an inhaler in the US is outrageous.
The labs' greed is no news to anyone. But some countries' governments just seem to lack the will to keep that greed at bay.

I agree with everything you said here.
(I use a rescue inhaler, plus two other inhaled medications for my chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and you don't want to know what they cost. Fortunately, our Medicare covers that, so I'm lucky.)
I'm sorry to hear about your chronic disease. I'll email you sth you may find interesting.
Greed has eaten the heart of this country. Capitalism sucks. Who knew?
