I don't believe 'Root' and 'Padma' qualify as 'traditional girls names'... but that woman is an idiot anyway.

I really must travel to New Zealand. I had no idea that was a major export of theirs. Got my hopes up!

Here's the sad reality about public transport. Unless a city can pay for it out right and not ask riders to take on a portion of the burden, it will not work. So, in a way, the riders who skip paying (there are bus lines here in Minneapolis where no one pays ever - and they should) are helping cities reach this conclusion. Put it in the budget, dears.

I agree: being myself a user of public transports I think they should be reformed in order to become free. And I am not saying that as a mean to a personal saving. Any citizen should be able to use these public services free of charge, and for workers the fee ought to be charged to their companies/employers. I always felt this way whenever I heard that whatever town policy was to develop their transportation services with the reduction of car traffic as an objective. Stop the hypocrisy and make it free: more and more people will adopt it!

LOL.

I so agree with you that "public" transport should be free to the public. Our taxes paid to build it, and still pay to maintain it. Ours here is very unreliable. There is supposed to be a schedule but it's never maintained. Now Elon is going wild to build an entire network here of his latest "hyperloop" transport. Will it be free? Ha! He's got to pay for his space race somehow.

@Pat: men like Elon? Born with a silver spoon in their mouths and indifferent at people starving as long as it benefits them. That Musky guy may have recently joked about on Twitter wondering if if should retire, well there's just been a terrible car accident here two days ago caused by a taxi... a Tesla one, leading all the Tesla Taxis to be stranded until further investigation in Paris. I’dbe more confident into the ESA or NASA to send someone in space than on golden boy's rocket...
As for the hyperloop project, it is clearly intended from the start to only serve and transport those who will be able to afford it. In other words: just another high-end toy.
