The Pentagon claims that Ukraine is now "able and willing" to retake territory from the russian invaders. Ukraine has regained control of Makariv, near Kyiv:

A large part of the success has been due to the difference in timing of operations. Russians lack sufficient equipment to move their armor at night, so they're exposing themselves greatly by moving during the day. Ukraine, on the other hand, has a wealth of western equipment (think night vision and thermal) for conducting operations at night, often with drones. The Ukrainian special forces in particular have excellent night ops capability, many equipped with GPNVG-18 night vision goggles – which cost over $40,000 each.

There are reports that Ukrainian forces have surrounded Russia's troops in Bucha, Irpin, and Hostomel and cut them off from supplies.
Ukrainian officials said Tuesday their troops have driven Russian forces out of Makariv. It's a significant event strategically, because this will help allow supplies and troops both in and out of the city, as well as facilitate evacuations and humanitarian aid efforts.

Much of the city is still contested, but Ukraine has taken back swaths of it, and it is no longer considered under russian control. Ukraine officials say they will effectively have retaken the city by the end of the day.

Boris Romantschenko survived the Buchenwald, Peenemünde, Dora-Mittelbau and Bergen-Belsen concentration camps as a young man. has not left his apartment for months for fear of contracting Covid-19. Russian attacks ignited a fire in his home, and he died in the fire.

Rest in peace Boris Romantschenko, 1926-2022
The source is a NATO official who spoke with media outlets (anonymously, for obvious reasons, but all of these reports have been very accurate so far).

Komsomolskaya Pravda, which is staunchly pro-kremlin, published an article saying 9,861 Russian servicemen had died, exceeding US intelligence estimates of Russian fatalities, but close to what Ukrainian intelligence has claimed. They quickly removed it and claimed it was the result of a hack.

UNCONFIRMED: A Ukrainian official claims they've intercepted russian communications including a summary that estimates Russian losses at 17,265, which is even higher than Ukrainian intelligence estimates (which were about ~15,000 at the time the claim was made).
These numbers are fairly consistent with NATO estimates and other western intelligence estimates.

Lt Gen Yakov Rezantsev was killed near Kherson. Good riddance.

Ukraine has "rewards" (USD cash, plus protection and relocation) available to Russian soldiers who surrender themselves and significant pieces of equipment. "Misha" surrendered himself and his tank and was taken into custody by Ukrainian intelligence. He told them that his tank crew mates had fled home and left him behind.

A photo taken of the event.
More sanctions are still being considered.
Intercepted communications also reveal russian soldiers claiming 50% of them are suffering frostbite (Note: This number can't be verified; it is likely exaggerated). There are reports of self-inflicted injuries in attempt to be pulled back from the front.
As for the fragging...
Western intelligence reports that russian colonel Yury Medvedev was run over by his own troops amid anger at mounting losses in Ukraine, according to western intelligence. The injuries proved fatal.

He has apparently left russia, with "no plans to return"
There was lots of speculation as to where he's been. Some outlets reported he had a heart attack (lol) after a meeting with Vladimir Putain but this is unconfirmed. He has reappeared and given a briefing to a roomful of dejected generals.
https://www.newsweek.com/russian-defense-minister-sergei-shoigu-missing-war-ukraine-1691379 https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/russia-denies-defense-minister-had-heart-attack-as-he-reappears-after-2-week-absence/
Truth be told, Shoigu is a massively incompetent man who actually rolled back his predecessor Anatoly Serdiukov's attempts to modernize Russia's army (modernizations that angered the oligarchs who were pilfering money). Turns out that really bit them in the ass... And may bite Shoigu specifically; being a russian general is one of the most dangerous occupations in the world, with a massive rate of "accidents" and "suicides" – see below:
Shoigu isn't the only notable security/defense official to disappear; others include the head of the National Guard, Viktor Zolotov, chief of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov, and others.
Watch it for yourself. (Link goes to the beginning of the most relevant ~90 seconds of the video, but if you have time, please watch the full interview. It gives me hope because among other things, it means that Ukraine has been preparing for this much longer than the world has truly been paying attention.)

Thank you so much. I love your blog, even more so now. Slava Ukrainian!
Thanks for that!
I heard late last night that Russian soldiers have been deserting. I hope they're joining the Ukrainian Army.
OMG, what a wealth of information I had not seen before! Thank you for doing this!
This guy is doing such a neat job at gathering sources of informations, I had to share his post.
(ps: sorry for the dumb MAGA comment that may have landed in your mailbox, I laughed so loud at being named a communist that I wrongly clicked the wrong button :-p His hilarious comment has now returned where it belongs => the trashcan)
Hopefully the tide is changing for Ukraine and will continue to do so.
With the last events as Ukrainians are courageously combating the Russians and gaining more ground in their own country, some little hope is far away in the horizon.
The sad conter part is that the bloody Putin is still spreading his dirty venom and worse let his savage army still destroying civilians places and killing innocents.
Some said that Joe Biden over talked about getting rid of Putin but I think he said just what any sensible honest man is thinking too.
That is less weird than all the insanities that the ex twice impeached «45» ever said in his «life».
That MAGA commenter deserves to be in the trashcan WITH his comment! What a cry baby.
Yep. He belongs to the variety of dickheads that made me grow misanthropic over the past years.
