Harry Holland - circa years 1990-2000
At first glance I find it hard to see a narrative here due to the pose of most characters. As if the painter's first goal was to showcase the several classical nude studies he had in mind. in a very academic style, the 1800s way, as with most of his work over the past decades.
Are they survivors from a party that was so wild that it led their ship to sink?
Anyway, I very much enjoy these nuances of blue which perfectly highlight the bodies.
One of the rare paintings figuring men among his prolific work.
I suppose I could hang it above my tub.

What fun researching this painting. It is titled "The Boatmen", painted in 2009. Most of the other pictures online show the flesh tones in more vibrant colors. I was going to buy it for your bathroom remodel but couldn't find any information on its sale. It is more than likely in a private collection and hanging in some other rich person's salle de bains. Maybe you'll find a print, Laurent!
Very cool. Love the blues... but the men.. that one looks like a photograph. Interesting use of light.
Pretty.
@Richard: I read that at least one of his paintings has been bought and is exposed at the European Parliament in Brussels. I do Hope it's this one, LoL!
@Upton : I agree. The first thing that got my attention was the blues and the light shed on the bodies too.
@Rick: don't we all love pretty things...
