The "Magic" of Google's Way to Help Managing a Blog

I think that by now most Blogger's blog owners got used to checking the spam section when approving the comments they get about their articles/posts.

Yesterday a couple of comments popped-up there "waiting" form my approval, except they were written/sent at least a year ago.

Today I found 20 of them - yep, TWEN-F*CKING-TY ! And they range from March 2, 2022 to March 18, 2021. Exactly three years ago today, 3rd month of 2023. Does Google have an issue with threes, or is this a malicious easter egg left by some former unhappy employee of theirs. Who knows...

Anyway that'll explain why some of you will receive comments updates on quite ancient posts... :-]

The same thing happens on my blog. I check the comments "spam" every day, and sometimes old comments show up. I presume that these comments were originally posted with no problem, long ago, and then for some reason known only to Google's algorithms, Google goes back and un-approves them.

Also, the comments that get marked as spam, whether new or old, are generally very innocuous, with no obscene language or anything, so the reason they are marked as spam is a total mystery.

As far as I can tell, this is Google's algorithm for marking comments as spam:
(1) Look at comments from random dates (not just new ones).
(2) Choose a random number of the comments on those dates, paying no attention whatsoever to the content of the comments.
(3) Mark them as spam.

Happens to me too. It's very frustrating.

it is evident that there is something in the algorithm that castrates comments that are not spam and sends them to the spam folder. I just found dozens of comments since 2016 that have been put into psam and I'll have to list them in the visible comments.
