It started with AOL, if you recall. The internet in general was relatively sane for a few years but once AOL died and Zuck, et al stepped in...yeah. AOL on steroids.

Sometimes, even the supposedly educated ones are as bad with the misspellings, misuse of words. That's not to mention incorrect punctuation - if they bother to use it at all.
