I decided to download it right after watching the several trailers on IMDB.The plot is as classic as one from an Agatha Christie's novel such as Ten Little Niggers, only with a modern twist :
A Murder at the End of the World is a mystery series with a new kind of detective at the helm - a Gen Z amateur sleuth and tech-savvy hacker named "Darby Hart". Darby and eight other guests are invited by a reclusive billionaire to participate in a retreat at a remote and dazzling location. When one of the other guests is found dead, Darby must use all of her skills to prove it was murder against a tide of competing interests and before the killer takes another life.
To be honest, the cast was appealing (who doesn't like Clive Owen?) but the main character - Darby Hart played by Emma Corrin - intrigued me as I had already been dazzled by her performance at playing a young Lady Diana Spencer in the rightfully acclaimed series The Crown.
How come that this young British actress - and assumed non-binary person - could go from a shy/candid character to a Gen-Z geek with a Sherlock Holmesque talent?
The answer was worth the wait, as I had to wait seven weeks to binge-watch the whole thing (lucky you: the series in now all out for your watching pleasure, that is if you decide to follow my advice).
If you belong to the unhappy minds you will possibly argue that the cast seems very politically correct, as it is mainly white with the usual drops of Black/Asian/Arab/Gay/Disabled, all of them being eye-candy in their own way.
The story itself, like I mentioned, remains a classic murder mystery that unfolds throughout the episodes. Only it's shaped with a smart use of flashbacks centered on how and why the main character grew their personality and talent (hats off here to Harris Dickinson who succeeds at embodying a tortured personality that ultimately proves to be the healthiest of characters).
If you come to watch this mini-series, please feel free to comment on how you liked or disliked it. You can do that over any post on the blog, related or not.
Love you Gents.
