@Stache: Even the pharmacist and his colleagues liked it I was coming with my dog. Probably because they were social and knew how to behave in public. The only place I didn't bring my dog with me were the food stores. And even that is debatable, considering the lack of cleanliness of some people you can sometimes come across.
As for planes, if need be I'd rather travel by train and/or boat than than to have my dog endure the trip in the hold. And, for the record, I remember an 8 hours flight from Munich to San Francisco during which the man besides me snored and farted to a point I had to discreetly ask the stewardess for a change of placing, LoL!
Anyway, I guess the point of view depends on the relationship one has with their dog/cat/whatever, and the way they educate (and groom) them.
