France has a long sordid history of colonial exploitation on four continents and myriad islands in the Caribbean and the south Pacific. It's reprehensible that French such as Bardot used her fame and influence to rail against immigration.
Very nice tribute.
As a Canadian I can say that we are not so fans of BB. She came here in the 70's to «save» the young white cute seals saying it's cruel to kill them.
She who was feeding on «foie gras» from stuffed geese to over grow their liver.
What history shows is that the hunting of those «cute» baby seals was almost stopped back then and the population of seal sky rocketed which resulted of the decline of cod fishes so the fishermen had to stop fishing them. Many lost their work and boats etc..
Don't play with nature as it has its balance.
For hunting those baby seals, the hunting came back but in more «humain» way to avoid them to eat too much cods.
No doubt she was a stunning and beautiful woman, but it ends there. She was extremely bitter and was not a very good ally to the lgbtq. She was known to incite violence on them. And treated her own son very badly. About the only thing her and I agree on were animal rights.

I agree with most if not all of the critics above.
However I'd rather. not speak ill of recently deceased people, especially in a public space/media, with respect to those who loved the person.
Hence the pictures only that remind me that she once was a star and an icon despite some very bad choices she made afterwards.
Anyway, have a wonderful New Year's Eve all !

Free speech, she is allowed an opinion it doesn't matter who she offends
Free speech also carries consequences.
I concur. It does carry consequences. Although, unfortunately, social medias over the past 20 years have repeatedly demonstrated that asinine opinions tend to be louder than informed ones, even leading poorly educated people to be elected in governemantal positons in countries that once were considered beacons of democracy. As a French citizen I am unfortunately witnessing it day after day.
I remain an advocate of free speech but, and moreover, I wish teachers were more focused on what it is as a mean and - like you said - its implications, starting with the ownership of one's saying - like a journalist signing an article with his own name, or even like an someone commenting a thread and signing 'Laurent, from France'.
(just kidding :-)
