Today was May Day, not Labor Day. When I was a kid, we all exchanged baskets of candy on May Day. It's Communist Labor Day, I guess.

@Unknown: Nothing communist here in France, it's the equivalent of the U.S. Labor Day that takes place in September. It goes back to 1889 and the first annual protest and fight to get 8 hours daywork tops. I think that the same movement began a few years earlier in the U.S. but can't remember when.
It's also a tradition to offer sprigs of Lilly of the valley on the 1st of May.
